First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people,1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—
even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.
Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior,3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human,5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God's purpose at his appointed time.6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle--I am telling the truth; I am not lying--and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.
So I want the men to pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without anger or dispute. 8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.
Likewise the women are to dress in suitable apparel, with modesty and self-control. Their adornment must not be with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing,9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God.10but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.
A woman must learn quietly with all submissiveness.11A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man. She must remain quiet.12I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.
For Adam was formed first and then Eve.13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, fell into transgression.14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
But she will be delivered through childbearing, if she continues in faith and love and holiness with self-control. 15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
