NET BibleNew International Version
First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people,1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--
even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior,3This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human,5For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God's purpose at his appointed time.6who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle--I am telling the truth; I am not lying--and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
So I want the men to pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without anger or dispute. 8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
Likewise the women are to dress in suitable apparel, with modesty and self-control. Their adornment must not be with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing,9I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God.10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
A woman must learn quietly with all submissiveness.11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man. She must remain quiet.12I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
For Adam was formed first and then Eve.13For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, fell into transgression.14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
But she will be delivered through childbearing, if she continues in faith and love and holiness with self-control. 15But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
