| 3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, | 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, |
| 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God. | 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
| 5They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these. | 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. |
| 6For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions. | 6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, |
| 7Such women are always seeking instruction, yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. | 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. |
| 8And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people--who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith--also oppose the truth. | 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. |
| 9But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres. | 9But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. |

| 11as well as the persecutions and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra.
