He did what the LORD approved, just as his father Uzziah had done. (He did not, however, have the audacity to enter the temple.) Yet the people were still sinning. 2He did what was right in the LORD's sight as his father Uzziah had done. In addition, he didn't enter the LORD's sanctuary, but the people still behaved corruptly.
He built the Upper Gate to the LORD's temple and did a lot of work on the wall in the area known as Ophel.3Jotham built the Upper Gate of the LORD's temple, and he built extensively on the wall of Ophel.
He built cities in the hill country of Judah and fortresses and towers in the forests. 4He also built cities in the hill country of Judah and fortresses and towers in the forests.
He launched a military campaign against the king of the Ammonites and defeated them. That year the Ammonites paid him 100 talents of silver, 10,000 kors of wheat, and 10,000 kors of barley. The Ammonites also paid this same amount of annual tribute the next two years. 5He waged war against the king of the Ammonites. He overpowered the Ammonites, and that year they gave him 7,500 pounds of silver, 50,000 bushels of wheat, and 50,000 bushels of barley. They paid him the same in the second and third years.
Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to please the LORD his God.6So Jotham strengthened himself because he did not waver in obeying the LORD his God.
The rest of the events of Jotham's reign, including all his military campaigns and his accomplishments, are recorded in the scroll of the kings of Israel and Judah.7As for the rest of the events of Jotham's reign, along with all his wars and his ways, note that they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
