Psalm 17
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
A prayer of David. LORD, consider my just cause! Pay attention to my cry for help! Listen to the prayer I sincerely offer! 1LORD, hear my just plea! Pay attention to my cry! Listen to my prayer, since it does not come from lying lips.
Make a just decision on my behalf! Decide what is right! 2Justice for me will come from your presence; your eyes see what is right.
You have scrutinized my inner motives; you have examined me during the night. You have carefully evaluated me, but you find no sin. I am determined I will say nothing sinful. 3When you probe my heart, and examine me at night; when you refine me, you will find nothing wrong, for I have determined that I will not transgress with my mouth.
As for the actions of people--just as you have commanded, I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. 4As for the ways of mankind, I have, according to the words of your lips, avoided the ways of the violent.
I carefully obey your commands; I do not deviate from them. 5Because my steps have held fast to your paths, my footsteps have not faltered.
I call to you for you will answer me, O God. Listen to me! Hear what I say! 6I call upon you, for you will answer me, God. Listen closely to me and hear my prayer.
Accomplish awesome, faithful deeds, you who powerfully deliver those who look to you for protection from their enemies. 7Show forth your gracious love, save those who take refuge in you from those who rebel against your sovereign power.
Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! Hide me in the shadow of your wings! 8Protect me as the most precious part of the eye; hide me under the shadow of your wings
Protect me from the wicked men who attack me, my enemies who crowd around me for the kill. 9from the wicked who have afflicted me, from my enemies who have surrounded me.
They are calloused; they speak arrogantly. 10They are imprisoned by their own prosperity, they have boasted proudly with their mouth.
They attack me, now they surround me; they intend to throw me to the ground. 11Now they have encircled our paths and are determined to cast us down to the ground.
He is like a lion that wants to tear its prey to bits, like a young lion crouching in hidden places. 12Like a lion they desire to rip us to pieces, like a young lion waiting in ambush.
Rise up, LORD! Confront him! Knock him down! Use your sword to rescue me from the wicked man! 13Arise, LORD, confront them, bring them to their knees! Deliver me from the wicked by your sword—
LORD, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, from the murderers of this world! They enjoy prosperity; you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. They have many children, and leave their wealth to their offspring. 14from men, LORD, by your hand— from men who belong to this world, whose reward is only in this life. But as for your treasured ones, may their stomachs be full, may their children have an abundance, and may they leave wealth to their offspring.
As for me, because I am innocent I will see your face; when I awake you will reveal yourself to me. 15But as for me, justified, I will behold your face; when I awake, your presence will satisfy me.
