| 1Here is the message about Judah and Jerusalem that was revealed to Isaiah son of Amoz. | 1The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. |
| 2In the future the mountain of the LORD's temple will endure as the most important of mountains, and will be the most prominent of hills. All the nations will stream to it, | 2Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. |
| 3many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the LORD's mountain, to the temple of the God of Jacob, so he can teach us his requirements, and we can follow his standards." For Zion will be the center for moral instruction; the LORD will issue edicts from Jerusalem. | 3And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. |
| 4He will judge disputes between nations; he will settle cases for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will no longer train for war. | 4And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war. |
| 5O descendants of Jacob, come, let us walk in the LORD's guiding light. | 5Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. |
| 6Indeed, O LORD, you have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob. For diviners from the east are everywhere; they consult omen readers like the Philistines do. Plenty of foreigners are around. | 6For You have abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with influences from the east, And they are soothsayers like the Philistines, And they strike bargains with the children of foreigners. |
| 7Their land is full of gold and silver; there is no end to their wealth. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. | 7Their land has also been filled with silver and gold And there is no end to their treasures; Their land has also been filled with horses And there is no end to their chariots. |
| 8Their land is full of worthless idols; they worship the product of their own hands, what their own fingers have fashioned. | 8Their land has also been filled with idols; They worship the work of their hands, That which their fingers have made. |
| 9Men bow down to them in homage, they lie flat on the ground in worship. Don't spare them! | 9So the common man has been humbled And the man of importance has been abased, But do not forgive them. |
| 10Go up into the rocky cliffs, hide in the ground. Get away from the dreadful judgment of the LORD, from his royal splendor! | 10Enter the rock and hide in the dust From the terror of the LORD and from the splendor of His majesty. |
| 11Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. | 11The proud look of man will be abased And the loftiness of man will be humbled, And the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. |
| 12Indeed, the LORD who commands armies has planned a day of judgment, for all the high and mighty, for all who are proud--they will be humiliated; | 12For the LORD of hosts will have a day of reckoning Against everyone who is proud and lofty And against everyone who is lifted up, That he may be abased. |
| 13for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are so high and mighty, for all the oaks of Bashan; | 13And it will be against all the cedars of Lebanon that are lofty and lifted up, Against all the oaks of Bashan, |
| 14for all the tall mountains, for all the high hills, | 14Against all the lofty mountains, Against all the hills that are lifted up, |
| 15for every high tower, for every fortified wall, | 15Against every high tower, Against every fortified wall, |
| 16for all the large ships, for all the impressive ships. | 16Against all the ships of Tarshish And against all the beautiful craft. |
| 17Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. | 17The pride of man will be humbled And the loftiness of men will be abased; And the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, |
| 18The worthless idols will be completely eliminated. | 18But the idols will completely vanish. |
| 19They will go into caves in the rocky cliffs and into holes in the ground, trying to escape the dreadful judgment of the LORD and his royal splendor, when he rises up to terrify the earth. | 19Men will go into caves of the rocks And into holes of the ground Before the terror of the LORD And the splendor of His majesty, When He arises to make the earth tremble. |
| 20At that time men will throw their silver and gold idols, which they made for themselves to worship, into the caves where rodents and bats live, | 20In that day men will cast away to the moles and the bats Their idols of silver and their idols of gold, Which they made for themselves to worship, |
| 21so they themselves can go into the crevices of the rocky cliffs and the openings under the rocky overhangs, trying to escape the dreadful judgment of the LORD and his royal splendor, when he rises up to terrify the earth. | 21In order to go into the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffs Before the terror of the LORD and the splendor of His majesty, When He arises to make the earth tremble. |
| 22Stop trusting in human beings, whose life's breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration? | 22Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed? |
