Psalm 3
NET BibleNew Living Translation
A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom. LORD, how numerous are my enemies! Many attack me. 1O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me.
Many say about me, "God will not deliver him." (Selah) 2So many are saying, “God will never rescue him!” Interlude
But you, LORD, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me. 3But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
To the LORD I cried out, and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah) 4I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. Interlude
I rested and slept; I awoke, for the LORD protects me. 5I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me.
I am not afraid of the multitude of people who attack me from all directions. 6I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side.
Rise up, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Yes, you will strike all my enemies on the jaw; you will break the teeth of the wicked. 7Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked!
The LORD delivers; you show favor to your people. (Selah) 8Victory comes from you, O LORD. May you bless your people. Interlude
