New International Version | English Standard Version |
For the director of music. Of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. | 1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. |
The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. |
All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. | 3They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. |
Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the LORD. | 4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD? |
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. | 5There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. |
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. | 6You would shame the plans of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! | 7Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. |
