For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. | 1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. LORD, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness. |
Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. | 2Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. |
Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. | 3For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name. |
Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. | 4You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for You are my refuge. |
Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God. | 5Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, LORD, God of truth. |
I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD. | 6I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. |
I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. | 7I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful love because You have seen my affliction. You have known the troubles of my life |
You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. | 8and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. |
Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief. | 9Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow-- my whole being as well. |
My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. | 10Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my sinfulness, and my bones waste away. |
Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. | 11I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. |
I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. | 12I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. |
For I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side!" They conspire against me and plot to take my life. | 13I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. |
But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God." | 14But I trust in You, LORD; I say, "You are my God." |
My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. | 15The course of my life is in Your power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. |
Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. | 16Show Your favor to Your servant; save me by Your faithful love. |
Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead. | 17 LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on You. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be silent in Sheol. |
Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. | 18Let lying lips be quieted; they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt. |
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. | 19How great is Your goodness that You have stored up for those who fear You and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in You. |
In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues. | 20You hide them in the protection of Your presence; You conceal them in a shelter from the schemes of men, from quarrelsome tongues. |
Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege. | 21May the LORD be praised, for He has wonderfully shown His faithful love to me in a city under siege. |
In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. | 22In my alarm I had said," I am cut off from Your sight." But You heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to You for help. |
Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full. | 23Love the LORD, all His faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. |
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD. | 24Be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. |
