New International Version | International Standard Version |
Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom will I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid? |
When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. | 2When those who practice evil, my enemies, and my oppressors come near me to devour my flesh, they stumble and fall. |
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. | 3If an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear. If a war is launched against me, I will even trust in that situation. |
One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. | 4I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I really seek: that I may remain in the LORD's Temple all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD; and to inquire in his Temple. |
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. | 5For he will conceal me in his shelter on the day of evil; He will hide me in a secluded chamber within his tent; He will place me on a high rock. |
Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. | 6Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies, even those who surround me. I will sacrifice in his tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melodies to the LORD. |
Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. | 7Hear my voice, LORD, when I cry out! Be gracious to me and answer me. |
My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. | 8My mind recalls your word, "Seek my face," so your face, LORD, I will seek. |
Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. | 9Do not hide your face from me; do not turn away in anger from your servant. You have been my help, therefore do not abandon or forsake me, God of my salvation. |
Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. | 10Though my father and my mother abandoned me, the LORD gathers me up. |
Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. | 11Teach me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. |
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. | 12Do not hand me over to the desires of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me; even the one who breathes out violence. |
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. | 13I believe that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. |
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. | 14Wait on the LORD. Be courageous, and he will strengthen your heart. Wait on the LORD! |
