| 1Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children | 1Therefore, be imitators of God as dearly loved children |
| 2and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. | 2and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. |
| 3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. | 3But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints. |
| 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. | 4Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting--all of which are out of character--but rather thanksgiving. |
