A Song of Ascents. LORD, remember David And all his afflictions; | 1LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured, |
How he swore to the LORD, And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: | 2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, Or go up to the comfort of my bed; | 3"I will not enter my house or get into my bed, |
I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, | 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber |
Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; We found it in the fields of the woods. | 6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
Let us go into His tabernacle; Let us worship at His footstool. | 7Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool. |
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. | 8Rise up, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your powerful ark. |
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your saints shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may your faithful people shout for joy. |
For Your servant David’s sake, Do not turn away the face of Your Anointed. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. |
The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it: “I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: "I will set one of your offspring on your throne. |
If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I shall teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home: |
“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. | 14"This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it. |
I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread. |
I will also clothe her priests with salvation, And her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy. |
There I will make the horn of David grow; I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed. | 17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. |
His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.” | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious." |
