A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. Set to “Mahalath Leannoth.” A Contemplation of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You. | 1O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out day and night before you. |
Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry. | 2Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry! |
For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave. | 3For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. |
I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength, | 4I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength, |
Adrift among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And who are cut off from Your hand. | 5like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand. |
You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths. | 6You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the regions dark and deep. |
Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah | 7Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. Selah |
You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; | 8You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape; |
My eye wastes away because of affliction. LORD, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You. | 9my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you. |
Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah | 10Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah |
Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in the place of destruction? | 11Is your steadfast love declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? |
Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | 12Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? |
But to You I have cried out, O LORD, And in the morning my prayer comes before You. | 13But I, O LORD, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you. |
LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? | 14O LORD, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me? |
I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; I suffer Your terrors; I am distraught. | 15Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am helpless. |
Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off. | 16Your wrath has swept over me; your dreadful assaults destroy me. |
They came around me all day long like water; They engulfed me altogether. | 17They surround me like a flood all day long; they close in on me together. |
Loved one and friend You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness. | 18You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness. |
