 | 1A Meditation of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite. O LORD my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me, | 1A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite. Yahweh my God, I seek refuge in You; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me |
| 2Lest they tear me like a lion, Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver. | 2or they will tear me like a lion, ripping me apart with no one to rescue me. |
| 3O LORD my God, if I have done this: If there is iniquity in my hands, | 3Yahweh my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice on my hands, |
| 4If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, Or have plundered my enemy without cause, | 4if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause, |
| 5Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; Yes, let him trample my life to the earth, And lay my honor in the dust. Selah | 5may an enemy pursue and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah |
| 6Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; Lift Yourself up because of the rage of my enemies; Rise up for me to the judgment You have commanded! | 6Rise up, LORD, in Your anger; lift Yourself up against the fury of my adversaries; awake for me; You have ordained a judgment. |
| 7So the congregation of the peoples shall surround You; For their sakes, therefore, return on high. | 7Let the assembly of peoples gather around You; take Your seat on high over it. |
| 8The LORD shall judge the peoples; Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity within me. | 8The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity. |
| 9Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, But establish the just; For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. | 9Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The One who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God. |
| 10My defense is of God, Who saves the upright in heart. | 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. |
| 11God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day. | 11God is a righteous judge and a God who shows His wrath every day. |
| 12If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready. | 12If anyone does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has strung His bow and made it ready. |
| 13He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts. | 13He has prepared His deadly weapons; He tips His arrows with fire. |
| 14Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; Yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. | 14See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil, conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit. |
| 15He made a pit and dug it out, And has fallen into the ditch which he made. | 15He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made. |
| 16His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown. | 16His trouble comes back on his own head, and his violence falls on the top of his head. |
| 17I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. | 17I will thank the LORD for His righteousness; I will sing about the name of Yahweh the Most High. |
