Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;1Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.2His appearance was changed in front of them, his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.3Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”4Then Peter told Jesus, "Lord, it's good that we're here! If you want, I'll set up three shelters —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”5He was still speaking when a bright cloud suddenly overshadowed them. A voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him. Keep on listening to him!"
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.6When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified.
But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”7But Jesus came up to them and touched them, saying, "Get up, and stop being afraid."
When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.8When they raised their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus all by himself.
Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”9On their way down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Don't tell anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”10So the disciples asked him, "Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.11He answered them, "Elijah is indeed coming and will restore all things.
But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, yet people did not recognize him and treated him just as they pleased. In the same way, the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.13Then the disciples understood that he had been speaking to them about John the Baptist.
And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,14As they approached the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, knelt down in front of him,
“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.15and said, "Sir, have mercy on my son, because he is an epileptic and suffers terribly. Often he falls into fire and often into water.
So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”16I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn't heal him."
Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”17Jesus replied, "You unbelieving and perverted generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me!"
And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.18Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed that very hour.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.20He told them, "Because of your lack of faith. I tell all of you with certainty, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”21But this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting."
Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,22While they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands.
and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.23They will kill him, but he will be raised on the third day." Then they were filled with grief.
When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”24When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came up to Peter and asked, "Your teacher pays the temple tax, doesn't he?"
He said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”25He answered, "Yes." When Peter went home, Jesus spoke to him first and asked him, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings on the earth collect tolls or tributes? From their own subjects, or from foreigners?"
Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.26"From foreigners," he replied. So Jesus told him, "In that case, the subjects are exempt.
Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”27However, so that we don't offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, open its mouth, and you will find a coin. Take it and give it to them for me and you."
