New King James Version | King James Bible |
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly. | 1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, |
And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice. | 2And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. |
For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me. | 3For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. |
Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’ | 4Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. |
The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head. | 5The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. |
I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God. | 6I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. |
“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple. | 7When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. |
“Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy. | 8They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. |
But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.” | 9But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. |
So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. | 10And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. |
