New King James Version | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, | 1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, |
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. | 2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. |
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, | 3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, |
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, | 5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, |
who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, | 6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. |
for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. | 7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. |
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; | 8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. |
in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, | 9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, |
but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. | 10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. |
Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. | 11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. |
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. | 12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. |
For Adam was formed first, then Eve. | 13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. |
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. | 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. |
Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control. | 15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. |
