New King James Version | New Living Translation |
A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” | 1I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” |
Our feet have been standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem! | 2And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. |
Jerusalem is built As a city that is compact together, | 3Jerusalem is a well-built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached. |
Where the tribes go up, The tribes of the LORD, To the Testimony of Israel, To give thanks to the name of the LORD. | 4All the tribes of Israel—the LORD’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD, as the law requires of Israel. |
For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. | 5Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. |
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. | 6Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. |
Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.” | 7O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. |
For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” | 8For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “May you have peace.” |
Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good. | 9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. |
