New King James Version | New Living Translation |
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. | 1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand. |
He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; | 2He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. |
and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. | 3The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while. |
And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. | 4Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years. |
But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. | 5This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.) |
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. | 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. The Defeat of Satan |
Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison | 7When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison. |
and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. | 8He will go out to deceive the nations—called Gog and Magog—in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle—a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore. |
They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. | 9And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them. |
The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. | 10Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. The Final Judgment |
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. | 11And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. |
And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. | 12I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. |
The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. | 13The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. |
Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. | 14Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. |
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. | 15And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. |
