New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
Then the LORD said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the LORD still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them. ” | 1Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and offer raisin cakes to idols.” |
So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of wine. | 2So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley. |
Then I said to her, “You must live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution. During this time, you will not have sexual relations with anyone, not even with me. ” | 3Then I said to her, “You must live with me for many days; you must not be promiscuous or belong to another, and I will do the same for you.” |
This shows that Israel will go a long time without a king or prince, and without sacrifices, sacred pillars, priests, or even idols! | 4For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or idol. |
But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the LORD their God and to David’s descendant, their king. In the last days, they will tremble in awe of the LORD and of his goodness. | 5Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days. |
