Job continued speaking:1Job continued his discourse:
“I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul—2“As surely as God lives, who has deprived me of justice—the Almighty, who has embittered my soul—
As long as I live, while I have breath from God,3as long as my breath is still within me and the breath of God remains in my nostrils,
my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies.4my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will not utter deceit.
I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die.5I will never say that you are right; I will maintain my integrity until I die.
I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live.6I will cling to my righteousness and never let go. As long as I live, my conscience will not accuse me.
“May my enemy be punished like the wicked, my adversary like those who do evil.7May my enemy be like the wicked and my opponent like the unjust.
For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life?8For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?
Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time?10Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?
I will teach you about God’s power. I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty.11I will instruct you in the power of God. I will not conceal the ways of the Almighty.
But you have seen all this, yet you say all these useless things to me.12Surely all of you have seen it for yourselves. Why then do you keep up this empty talk?
“This is what the wicked will receive from God; this is their inheritance from the Almighty.13This is the wicked man’s portion from God—the heritage the ruthless receive from the Almighty.
They may have many children, but the children will die in war or starve to death.14Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; and his offspring will never have enough food.
Those who survive will die of a plague, and not even their widows will mourn them.15His survivors will be buried by the plague, and their widows will not weep for them.
“Evil people may have piles of money and may store away mounds of clothing.16Though he heaps up silver like dust and piles up a wardrobe like clay,
But the righteous will wear that clothing, and the innocent will divide that money.17what he lays up, the righteous will wear, and his silver will be divided by the innocent.
The wicked build houses as fragile as a spider’s web, as flimsy as a shelter made of branches.18The house he built is like a moth’s cocoon, like a hut set up by a watchman.
The wicked go to bed rich but wake to find that all their wealth is gone.19He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.
Terror overwhelms them like a flood, and they are blown away in the storms of the night.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest sweeps him away in the night.
The east wind carries them away, and they are gone. It sweeps them away.21The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
It whirls down on them without mercy. They struggle to flee from its power.22It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power.
But everyone jeers at them and mocks them.23It claps its hands at him and hisses him out of his place.
