| 1I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. | 1A song of ascents. In my distress I cried to the LORD, and He answered me. |
| 2Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. | 2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue. |
| 3O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? | 3What will He do to you, and what will be added to you, O deceitful tongue? |
| 4You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. | 4Sharp arrows will come from the warrior, with burning coals of the broom tree! |
| 5How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. | 5Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of Kedar! |
| 6I am tired of living among people who hate peace. | 6Too long have I dwelt among those who hate peace. |
| 7I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war! | 7I am in favor of peace; but when I speak, they want war. |
