New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out to you by day. I come to you at night. | 1A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choirmaster. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, the God of my salvation, day and night I cry out before You. |
Now hear my prayer; listen to my cry. | 2May my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my cry. |
For my life is full of troubles, and death draws near. | 3For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. |
I am as good as dead, like a strong man with no strength left. | 4I am counted among those descending to the Pit. I am like a man without strength. |
They have left me among the dead, and I lie like a corpse in a grave. I am forgotten, cut off from your care. | 5I am forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, who are cut off from Your care. |
You have thrown me into the lowest pit, into the darkest depths. | 6You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths. |
Your anger weighs me down; with wave after wave you have engulfed me. Interlude | 7Your wrath weighs heavily upon me; all Your waves have submerged me. Selah |
You have driven my friends away by making me repulsive to them. I am in a trap with no way of escape. | 8You have removed my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them; I am confined and cannot escape. |
My eyes are blinded by my tears. Each day I beg for your help, O LORD; I lift my hands to you for mercy. | 9My eyes grow dim with grief. I call to You daily, O LORD; I spread out my hands to You. |
Are your wonderful deeds of any use to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Interlude | 10Do You work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise You? Selah |
Can those in the grave declare your unfailing love? Can they proclaim your faithfulness in the place of destruction? | 11Can Your loving devotion be proclaimed in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? |
Can the darkness speak of your wonderful deeds? Can anyone in the land of forgetfulness talk about your righteousness? | 12Will Your wonders be known in the darkness, or Your righteousness in the land of oblivion? |
O LORD, I cry out to you. I will keep on pleading day by day. | 13But to You, O LORD, I cry for help; in the morning my prayer comes before You. |
O LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you turn your face from me? | 14Why, O LORD, do You reject me? Why do You hide Your face from me? |
I have been sick and close to death since my youth. I stand helpless and desperate before your terrors. | 15From my youth I was afflicted and near death. I have borne Your terrors; I am in despair. |
Your fierce anger has overwhelmed me. Your terrors have paralyzed me. | 16Your wrath has swept over me; Your terrors have destroyed me. |
They swirl around me like floodwaters all day long. They have engulfed me completely. | 17All day long they engulf me like water; they enclose me on every side. |
You have taken away my companions and loved ones. Darkness is my closest friend. | 18You have removed my beloved and my friend; darkness is my closest companion. |
