NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Job,1And the LORD said to Job:
“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD2“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
Then Job replied to the LORD,3Then Job answered the LORD and said:
“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.4“Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.
I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again5I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.”
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.7“Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.
“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?8Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?9Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.10“Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor.
Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.11Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on everyone who is proud and abase him.
Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.12Look on everyone who is proud and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand.
Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead.13Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below.
Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.14Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.
“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox.15“Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox.
See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly.16Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly.
Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.17He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron.18His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.
It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it.19“He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword!
The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play.20For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play.
It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh.21Under the lotus plants he lies, in the shelter of the reeds and in the marsh.
The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream.22For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him.
It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.23Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth.
No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.24Can one take him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a snare?
