New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
Rescue me from my enemies, O God. Protect me from those who have come to destroy me. | 1Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; |
Rescue me from these criminals; save me from these murderers. | 2deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men. |
They have set an ambush for me. Fierce enemies are out there waiting, LORD, though I have not sinned or offended them. | 3For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD, |
I have done nothing wrong, yet they prepare to attack me. Wake up! See what is happening and help me! | 4for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see! |
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, wake up and punish those hostile nations. Show no mercy to wicked traitors. Interlude | 5You, LORD God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah |
They come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. | 6Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. |
Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. “After all, who can hear us?” they sneer. | 7There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips— for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?” |
But LORD, you laugh at them. You scoff at all the hostile nations. | 8But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision. |
You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress. | 9O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. |
In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies. | 10My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies. |
Don’t kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield. | 11Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield! |
Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies. | 12For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter, |
Destroy them in your anger! Wipe them out completely! Then the whole world will know that God reigns in Israel. Interlude | 13consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah |
My enemies come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. | 14Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. |
They scavenge for food but go to sleep unsatisfied. | 15They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill. |
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. | 16But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. |
O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love. | 17O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love. |
