Applying consecration daily?
How can we apply the principle of consecration in our daily lives?

Setting the Scene: Luke 2:23

“Every firstborn male shall be called holy to the Lord.”

From Moses to Mary and Joseph, God’s people literally set apart the firstborn for Him. The presentation of Jesus shows that the principle never expired; it finds its ultimate fulfillment in Christ and spreads to every part of life for those who belong to Him.

What Consecration Is

• To consecrate = to set apart as exclusively God’s own (Exodus 13:2; Leviticus 20:26).

• It is both positional (God claims us) and practical (we actively live as His).

• Because Scripture is accurate and true, every command to “be holy” is binding and workable today (1 Peter 1:15-16).

Why Consecration Still Matters

• We were bought at a price—Christ’s blood (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

• The world pulls toward compromise, but God calls for distinction (2 Corinthians 6:17).

• Consecration opens the way for deeper fellowship and usefulness (2 Timothy 2:21).

Living It Out: Daily Habits That Set Us Apart

• First moments: begin each day consciously handing self, schedule, and desires back to Him (Psalm 5:3).

• First thoughts: anchor the mind in Scripture before screens or news (Joshua 1:8).

• First decisions: ask, “Does this choice honor the One who owns me?” (Colossians 3:17).

• Ongoing checks: if anything competes with His lordship—remove, replace, or redeem it (Hebrews 12:1).

Keeping the “Firstborn” Principle Today

The “first” still belongs to God. Practically:

1. First portion of income (Proverbs 3:9) → systematic, cheerful giving.

2. First day of the week (Acts 20:7) → corporate worship priority.

3. First talents and energy (Romans 12:6-8) → serve before seeking self-promotion.

4. First harvest of goals and achievements → credit glory to Him, not to self (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

Consecrated Relationships

• Marriage, family, friendships reflect His character (Ephesians 5:1-2).

• Speak words that build, never tear (Ephesians 4:29).

• Choose companionship that strengthens holiness, not erodes it (Proverbs 13:20).

Consecrated Work and Finances

• Work as worship—serve employers “as for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).

• Integrity in every transaction (Proverbs 11:1).

• Budget with generosity and purpose; avoid debt that hinders obedience (Romans 13:8).

Consecrated Personal Holiness

• Guard eyes and ears—media intake shapes the heart (Psalm 101:3).

• Maintain moral purity—body is His temple (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4).

• Practice regular confession; keep short accounts with God (1 John 1:9).
