Deuteronomy 7:19: Past events of faith?
What past events in Deuteronomy 7:19 strengthen faith in God's power?

Text for reflection

“the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out—The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.” (Deuteronomy 7:19)

Past events highlighted

• Ten devastating plagues in Egypt (Exodus 7–12)

• Passover night and the protection of Israel’s firstborn (Exodus 12:12-13)

• Red Sea parted, Israel crossing on dry ground, Egypt’s army swept away (Exodus 14:13-31)

• Song of triumph at the sea—public celebration of God’s victory (Exodus 15:1-18)

• Provision of manna every morning in the wilderness (Exodus 16:4-15)

• Water gushing from the rock at Horeb (Exodus 17:1-7)

• Victory over Amalek while Moses’ hands were raised (Exodus 17:8-16)

• Cloud by day and fire by night guiding the camp (Exodus 13:21-22)

• Destruction of Sihon king of the Amorites (Numbers 21:21-30; Deuteronomy 2:31-33)

• Destruction of Og king of Bashan (Numbers 21:33-35; Deuteronomy 3:1-3)

Faith-strengthening power on display

• God overthrows every earthly power—Pharaoh’s gods, armies, and kings alike.

• He controls nature itself—turning a sea into a highway, a rock into a spring.

• His deliverance is precise—His people spared while judgment falls on enemies.

• He sustains daily needs—bread from heaven proves He is not just a one-time rescuer.

• He wins battles when His people are weakest—hands raised in prayer decide the outcome.

• He repeats victories—Sihon and Og show the Exodus pattern continuing on new fronts.

• All of it was seen “with your own eyes,” turning history lessons into living testimony.

Living proof for today’s battles

• The same “mighty hand and outstretched arm” (Deuteronomy 4:34; Isaiah 59:1) that shattered Egypt stands ready against any modern fear.

• Remembered deliverances fuel present courage—just as Israel was to face Canaan, believers face spiritual strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

• Because God has acted powerfully, we can trust He will act faithfully—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

How does Deuteronomy 7:19 encourage trust in God's deliverance today?
