Emulate Christ's sacrifice daily?
How can we emulate Christ's sacrifice in our daily lives?

Setting Our Eyes on the Cross

“ There they crucified Him, and with Him two others—one on either side, and Jesus in the middle.” (John 19:18)

The scene is plain, stark, literal. Jesus hangs in the middle, willingly taking the place only He could fill. His act of self-giving love is the pattern for every believer’s daily walk.

What Christ’s Sacrifice Shows Us

• Unreserved obedience – He embraced the Father’s will without hesitation (John 10:18).

• Substitutionary love – He took our penalty so we could receive His life (2 Corinthians 5:21).

• Humility in action – He laid aside rights and reputation (Philippians 2:5-8).

• Endurance for joy set before Him – He saw beyond the pain to our salvation (Hebrews 12:2).

Living Out Self-Giving Love Daily

1. Deny self-interest

• Put others’ good ahead of personal gain (Philippians 2:3-4).

• Say no to habits that dull spiritual alertness, yes to habits that serve others.

2. Offer time and presence

• Schedule interruptions for people the way Jesus stopped for the needy (Mark 10:46-52).

• Listen longer than feels convenient.

3. Practice costly forgiveness

• Release offenses quickly, imitating Christ’s “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34).

• Refuse to rehearse grievances; replace them with prayer for the offender.

4. Give generously

• View money, abilities, and possessions as tools for Kingdom good (2 Corinthians 8:9).

• Set aside a portion specifically to meet another’s need.

5. Serve where no applause is heard

• Tackle unnoticed tasks—cleaning, caregiving, administrative details—cheerfully (Mark 10:45).

• Let gratitude to Christ, not recognition, fuel the work.

6. Endure hardship for righteousness

• Stand for truth even when misunderstood (1 Peter 2:20-21).

• Respond to criticism with gentleness instead of retaliation.

Scriptures That Strengthen the Pattern

Romans 12:1 – “Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.”

Ephesians 5:2 – “Walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us.”

1 John 3:16 – “By this we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”

Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Let these truths renew the mind, shape choices, and soften the heart until everyday moments—big and small—begin to resemble the Savior on the middle cross.

Fuel for Perseverance

• The same Spirit who raised Jesus empowers us (Romans 8:11).

• Present sacrifices are light compared with eternal glory (2 Corinthians 4:17).

• Love poured out never returns empty; God sees and rewards (Hebrews 6:10).

Walking Forward

Choose one arena—home, workplace, church, community—and consciously place self at the back so Christ’s self-giving love moves to the middle. In doing so, the world catches a glimpse of Calvary not just in words but in flesh-and-blood living sacrifices.
