Emulate disciples' response to resurrection?
How can we emulate the disciples' response to Jesus' resurrection in our lives?

Setting the Scene

“That very hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem, where they found the Eleven and those with them gathered together.” Luke 24:33

The two Emmaus travelers have just recognized the risen Christ. Without delay they reverse course, hurry the seven miles back to Jerusalem, and seek out the fellowship of believers. Their instincts teach us how to live in light of an empty tomb.

Rise Immediately

• The phrase “that very hour” underscores urgency.

• Resurrection truth calls for decisive action—no procrastination.

Romans 13:11 reminds us, “The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber.”

  Emulation:

– Reject spiritual lethargy as soon as truth dawns.

– Confess sin promptly (1 John 1:9).

– Obey revealed commands today, not “someday.”

Reverse Direction

• The men leave the comfort of Emmaus and go back to the mission field.

• Turning around pictures repentance and a new trajectory (Acts 3:19).

  Emulation:

– Align goals, calendars, and relationships with Christ’s victory.

– Walk away from anything incompatible with resurrection life (Colossians 3:1–2).

Return to Fellowship

• They “found the Eleven and those with them.” Community is the first destination.

Hebrews 10:25 calls believers to meet together “all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

  Emulation:

– Prioritize gathered worship and small-group life.

– Bring resurrection encouragement to others; don’t wait to be served.

Report the Good News

• Verse 35 shows them recounting “what had happened on the road.”

• Resurrection is a message, not a private sentiment (Acts 4:20).

  Emulation:

– Share personal encounters with Jesus—testimony has authority.

– Speak of the risen Lord in ordinary conversations (1 Peter 3:15).

Reinforce Assurance

• Their story confirms what the women and Peter already reported (Luke 24:9–12).

• Mutual witness strengthens faith (2 Corinthians 13:1).

  Emulation:

– Use Scripture and shared experiences to reinforce truth among believers.

– Celebrate God’s faithfulness so doubt loses ground.

Reignite Worship

• Gathered disciples soon experience Jesus standing among them (Luke 24:36).

• Worship naturally follows revelation (Revelation 1:17).

  Emulation:

– Expect Christ’s presence when believers assemble in His name (Matthew 18:20).

– Let awe, joy, and thanksgiving shape every meeting.

Resurrection Lifestyle Snapshot

1. Get up—act on Truth.

2. Turn around—leave dead ends.

3. Find the saints—pursue fellowship.

4. Speak up—declare the gospel.

5. Build up—confirm one another.

6. Lift up—worship the risen King.

Live this pattern daily, and Luke 24:33 becomes more than history—it becomes your testimony.
