How can Christ save us from Job 20:26?
How can we avoid the fate described in Job 20:26 through Christ?

The Warning in Job 20:26

“Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. A fire unfanned by man will consume him; it will feed upon what is left in his tent.” (Job 20:26)

What This Fate Represents

• Divine judgment that strips the wicked of every earthly security

• “Total darkness” – separation from God’s light (cf. 2 Thessalonians 1:9)

• “Fire unfanned by man” – God’s own, unstoppable wrath (cf. Hebrews 12:29)

Christ Takes the Darkness for Us

John 8:12 – “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness.”

Colossians 1:13 – He “rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – He became sin for us so we might become God’s righteousness.

Receiving His Deliverance

• Acknowledge personal sin and deserved judgment (Romans 3:23; 6:23).

• Believe that Christ’s cross fully satisfies God’s wrath (Romans 5:9).

• Confess and forsake sin, trusting Him as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 3:19).

Living Daily in the Light

• Stay in Scripture’s truth (Psalm 119:105; John 17:17).

• Walk by the Spirit, not the flesh (Galatians 5:16-25).

• Obey Christ’s commands out of love (John 14:15).

• Keep short accounts with God through continual confession (1 John 1:9).

• Invest in eternal treasure, not the passing “tent” of this life (Matthew 6:19-21; 2 Corinthians 4:18).

Fire That Refines, Not Destroys

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 – believers’ works tested by fire; the person is saved.

Isaiah 43:2 – “When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.”

Assurance for Those in Christ

Romans 8:1 – “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

John 10:28-29 – no one can snatch His sheep from His hand.

1 Peter 1:4-5 – an imperishable inheritance kept in heaven.

Trusting and abiding in Jesus moves us from the darkness of Job 20:26 into the unending light and security of God’s redeemed people.
