How can actions show we're dead to sin?
In what ways can we demonstrate our death to sin in our actions?

Our Certain Position in Christ

“By no means! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?” (Romans 6:2)

Because this statement is literally true, our daily lives must reflect the reality that, in Christ, we have already died to sin’s rule. We are not striving to die—we are acting on a death that has already happened.

Living Out Death to Sin: Core Actions

• Turn from willful sin the moment it rises. 1 John 3:9 reminds us, “No one who is born of God will continue to sin,” so interruptions to sinful patterns testify that we belong to Christ.

• Offer every part of your body to God. Romans 6:13 echoes: “Present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life.” This means eyes, tongue, hands, thoughts, sexuality—everything.

• Reckon yourself dead but God alive in you. Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Speak this truth aloud when tempted.

• Replace sinful habits with righteous ones. Ephesians 4:22-24 calls us to “put off” the old self and “put on” the new; practical substitution reinforces the death of the old nature.

Strengthened by the Spirit: Daily Habits that Prove Our Death

• Consistent, unhurried Scripture intake—Romans 12:2 shows the mind renewed, not conformed.

• Confession and immediate repentance; death to sin can’t coexist with hidden guilt (Proverbs 28:13).

• Joyful obedience—commands are not burdensome when the old self is buried (1 John 5:3).

• Fasting, when appropriate, to say no to fleshly cravings and yes to Spirit control (Galatians 5:16).

Guarding the Gates

• Eyes: Turn away from that which entices (Job 31:1).

• Ears: Filter music, talk, and news through Philippians 4:8.

• Mind: Capture every thought to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Walking with Others

• Seek accountability—“iron sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17).

• Meet faithfully with a local church; corporate worship reinforces resurrection life (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Serve sacrificially; dying to self becomes visible when we prefer others (Philippians 2:3-4).

Hope-Filled Motivation

Titus 2:11-14 declares that grace “teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness.” Our motivation is not fear but gratitude; Christ’s cross ensures sin’s sentence is past, and His resurrection guarantees power for holy living today.

How does Romans 6:2 connect with 2 Corinthians 5:17 about being a new creation?
