How can faith move "mulberry trees"?
How can believers cultivate faith that moves "mulberry trees" in their lives?

Setting the Scene

Luke 17:6 — “He replied, ‘If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it will obey you.’”

Jesus is speaking to disciples who have just asked Him to “increase our faith.” He answers by showing that genuine faith—even in its smallest form—carries divine authority to tackle what seems immovable.

What a Mulberry Tree Represents

• Deep-rooted obstacles that cling stubbornly to our lives

• Long-standing sins, habits, or wounds that feel impossible to dislodge

• Situations that appear permanently fixed in place

Why Mustard-Seed Faith Works

• Its power lies in God, not in the believer’s spiritual résumé (Matthew 17:20)

• Even tiny faith unites the believer to omnipotence (Mark 11:22-23)

• Faith acts on God’s revealed will with certainty (Hebrews 11:1)

Cultivating Faith That Uproots Mulberry Trees

1. Saturate your heart with Scripture

• “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)

• Read, study, and memorize passages that reveal God’s character and promises.

2. Pray with confidence, not wishful thinking

• Ask in alignment with God’s will and character (1 John 5:14-15).

• “But he must ask in faith, without doubting…” (James 1:6)

3. Obey promptly

• Faith grows through exercised obedience (Luke 6:46-49).

• Take the next clear step God shows, however small.

4. Guard the thought-life

• “Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

• Replace fear-filled meditations with truth-filled declarations.

5. Fellowship with faith-filled believers

• “Encourage one another daily.” (Hebrews 3:13)

• Testimonies of God’s past faithfulness feed expectation for future victories.

6. Persist when nothing moves at first

• The seed invisibly germinates before it breaks soil; keep speaking God’s word to the “tree.”

Luke 18:1—always pray and never give up.

Putting Faith into Motion

• Identify one “mulberry tree” the Spirit highlights.

• Find at least two Scriptures that expose God’s will concerning it.

• Speak those verses aloud daily, directing them toward the obstacle.

• Act in agreement—change speech, habits, or relationships as Scripture leads.

• Celebrate small shifts; thanksgiving fuels perseverance (Philippians 4:6-7).

Guarding Against Doubt

• Recognize that feelings are unreliable yardsticks; God’s word is certain (Psalm 119:89).

• When doubt whispers, reply with written truth (Matthew 4:4).

• Keep record of answered prayers to remind yourself of God’s track record.

Living the Uprooted Life

• Expect new fruit where the old tree once stood: freedom, holiness, and testimony.

• Share your story; others need to see that God still moves trees today (Revelation 12:11).

• Continue planting mustard seeds—faith exercised in one area equips you for the next.
