In what ways can we apply "testify to what we have seen" today? Setting the Scene “Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, yet you people do not accept our testimony.” (John 3:11). Jesus speaks of firsthand experience—a pattern later echoed by His disciples: “For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20). This call remains ours today. What Does It Mean to “Testify”? • To speak as eyewitnesses of God’s work in our lives • To affirm publicly that Scripture’s claims are true • To point others to Christ, not to ourselves (John 15:26–27) Why Our Testimony Matters • It fulfills Christ’s commission (Matthew 28:19–20) • It demonstrates the power of the gospel (Romans 1:16) • It strengthens fellow believers (Psalm 107:2) • It overcomes the enemy (Revelation 12:11) Practical Ways to Testify Today • Share your salvation story concisely—who you were, what Christ did, and who you are now (2 Corinthians 5:17). • Post Scripture-centered reflections on social media, keeping Christ—not self-promotion—front and center. • Offer to pray with co-workers or neighbors on the spot; afterward, explain how you’ve personally seen God answer prayer (Philippians 4:6–7). • Incorporate short testimonies when serving in church ministries—children’s classes, small groups, outreach events. • Write letters, emails, or texts that recount God’s recent faithfulness: provisions, healings, guidance (Psalm 66:16). • Practice hospitality; around the table, speak naturally of how the Lord has led your family (Deuteronomy 6:7). • Support missions by relaying missionaries’ reports to your circle, keeping God’s global work before people’s eyes (Acts 14:27). • Use creative arts—songs, blogs, photography, video—to showcase glimpses of God’s glory you’ve witnessed (Psalm 96:3). Guarding the Integrity of Our Testimony • Stay rooted in Scripture so your words align with truth (2 Timothy 2:15). • Live consistently; hypocrisy erodes credibility (Titus 2:7–8). • Keep Christ the hero; avoid exaggeration or self-glorification (John 3:30). • Speak with gentleness and respect, even when rejected (1 Peter 3:15–16). Encouragement to Move Forward Whatever your platform—home, workplace, school, online—God has placed you there so you can “declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). You have seen His hand; now simply tell the story. |
