How can we do good in our community?
In what ways can we practice doing good in our communities this week?

Anchoring in Ecclesiastes 3:12

“I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good while they live.”

Scripture is accurate and literal; this verse plainly calls every believer to active goodness in daily life.

Why Doing Good Matters

• It displays God’s character—Matthew 5:16

• It fulfills our purpose—Ephesians 2:10

• It blesses others and us—Proverbs 11:25

• It silences critics—1 Peter 2:12

Practical Ways to Do Good in the Community This Week

• Offer tangible help to a neighbor: mow a lawn, run errands, or prepare a meal.

• Visit or call shut-ins, widows, or the elderly (James 1:27).

• Volunteer a few hours at a local food pantry, crisis-pregnancy center, or homeless shelter.

• Give blood or sign up as an organ-donor advocate—saving lives reflects Christ’s sacrificial love.

• Buy groceries or pay for gas for someone in need; do it quietly (Matthew 6:3-4).

• Write encouraging notes to teachers, first-responders, or church leaders.

• Pick up litter in a park or along a roadside; care for creation (Genesis 2:15).

• Support a local small business or farmer’s market to strengthen community livelihoods.

• Share the gospel or a Bible tract; the greatest good is pointing someone to Christ (Romans 1:16).

• Pray with and for people on the spot; God answers and they feel loved (Philippians 4:6-7).

Attitudes That Strengthen Good Works

• Joyful obedience—Ecclesiastes 3:12 links rejoicing with doing good.

• Steadfastness—“Let us not grow weary in well-doing” (Galatians 6:9).

• Humility—serve without seeking applause (Philippians 2:3-4).

• Readiness—“Maintain good works, so as to meet urgent needs” (Titus 3:14).

Building a Rhythm of Goodness Beyond This Week

• Schedule regular service—make it a calendar item.

• Involve family or friends; multiply impact and model faith to children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

• Set aside a “generosity fund” in your budget for spontaneous giving.

• Keep a journal of God-given opportunities and answered prayers to encourage perseverance.

Encouragement for the Journey

2 Thessalonians 3:13—“But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.”

Hebrews 13:16—“Do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

Psalm 37:3—“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.”

Take Ecclesiastes 3:12 at face value this week: rejoice in God’s goodness and intentionally do good wherever He places you.
