In what ways can we embody being sent as Jesus was sent? The Verse at the Center “Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.’ ” (John 20:21) Seeing How Jesus Was Sent • John 17:18 – He was sent into the world, not away from it. • Luke 4:18-19 – He announced good news, set captives free, opened blind eyes. • Mark 10:45 – He came to serve and give His life as a ransom. • John 6:38 – He pursued the Father’s will, not His own. • Acts 10:38 – He went about “doing good and healing all who were oppressed.” Receiving the Same Peace • Jesus begins with “Peace be with you.” Before He commissions, He settles our hearts. • Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” We move out from peace, not pressure. Being Empowered by the Same Spirit • John 20:22 – He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” • Acts 1:8 – “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” • We embody our sending only through continual dependence on the Spirit’s power. Living the Mission Daily 1. Proclaim Truth • Matthew 28:19-20 – Go, make disciples, teach everything Jesus commanded. • Romans 1:16 – Never ashamed of the gospel; it is God’s power for salvation. 2. Show Compassion • Matthew 9:36 – Jesus was moved with compassion for the crowds. • Practical step: look for needs (physical, emotional, spiritual) and meet them. 3. Serve Sacrificially • Philippians 2:5-8 – Adopt His mindset of humble service. • Lay down time, resources, and comfort so others may see Christ. 4. Walk in Holiness • 1 Peter 1:15-16 – “Be holy in all you do.” • Our credibility rests on lives that mirror the character of the One who sends us. 5. Pursue Reconciliation • 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 – We are ambassadors, pleading, “Be reconciled to God.” • Speak forgiveness, model forgiveness, invite others into it. 6. Practice Relational Presence • John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” • We move toward people, share life with them, embody God’s nearness. 7. Exercise Spiritual Authority with Humility • Luke 10:19 – Authority over the enemy is granted. • Keep authority under submission to God’s Word and motivated by love. 8. Remain Obedient and Prayerful • John 5:19 – Jesus did only what He saw the Father doing. • Continual prayer tunes our hearts to the Father’s current assignments. Carrying His Peace into Every Sphere • Home – Model Christlike love, quick repentance, and servant-hearted leadership. • Workplace – Work excellently “as unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:23), gently share hope. • Community – Volunteer, be visible, bring gospel conversations into ordinary moments. • Church – Equip and be equipped, multiply disciples, send and be sent again. Encouragement for the Road “As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.” The same peace, purpose, and power that marked Jesus now rest on us. Step out; the Sender goes with you and works through you. |
