How can we exalt the Lord locally?
In what ways can we magnify the Lord in our community?

Anchoring in Psalm 40:16

“May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; may those who love Your salvation continually say, ‘The LORD be magnified!’” (Psalm 40:16)

What “Magnify” Means

To magnify is to make something appear larger in people’s sight—never changing God’s size or worth, but enlarging the community’s awareness of who He already is.

Joy-Filled Witness

Psalm 40:16 links magnifying the Lord to rejoicing.

• A smiling, hope-filled believer presents living evidence that Christ’s salvation satisfies.

Philippians 4:4 underscores this: “Rejoice in the Lord always.” Joy opens doors for gospel conversations without a word of complaint.

Visible Love

• Jesus: “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).

• Practical steps:

– Invite neighbors for a meal.

– Encourage the overlooked at work or school.

– Forgive quickly and publicly.

• Love displayed magnifies the loving character of God.

Shared Worship

• Worship magnifies God when done together (Psalm 34:3).

Hebrews 10:24-25 urges believers to meet and stir one another to good deeds.

• Community worship lifts God’s name above every competing allegiance in town squares, living rooms, and church buildings.

Compassionate Service

• Jesus: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

• Serve meals, tutor children, repair homes, visit shut-ins.

• Acts of mercy translate God’s invisible compassion into visible form, drawing thanks upward to Him.

Persistent Prayer

1 Thessalonians 5:17—“Pray without ceasing.”

• Neighborhood prayer walks, weekly prayer lists, and mealtime intercession remind everyone that God truly acts.

• When answers come, the community naturally says, “The LORD be magnified!”

Gospel Proclamation

Romans 1:16 declares the gospel “is the power of God for salvation.”

• Sharing Scripture, testimonies, and tract distribution gives people occasion to magnify the Savior they come to know.

Mark 16:15 keeps the mandate simple: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Godly Integrity

1 Peter 2:12 calls believers to conduct that causes observers to “glorify God on the day He visits us.”

• Walk in honesty, sexual purity, and generosity.

Philippians 2:14-15 urges doing “everything without complaining or arguing” so the Lord’s spotless reputation shines through His people.

Everyday Speech

Psalm 34:1 sets the tone: “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will continually be on my lips.”

• Replace casual grumbling with sentences that credit God’s goodness.

• Mary showed this habit in Luke 1:46—“My soul magnifies the Lord.”

Living in Hope

Titus 2:13 points to believers “awaiting the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

• Hope-saturated lives testify that the best is yet to come, inviting the community to look higher than temporary pleasures or fears.

Putting It All Together

Rejoicing hearts, sacrificial love, united worship, compassionate service, unceasing prayer, clear gospel words, consistent integrity, praise-filled speech, and radiant hope—all of these daily patterns echo David’s desire: “The LORD be magnified!” When the community sees believers living this way, the spotlight turns from us to Him, and His greatness fills the streets.
