How can we recall God's works today?
In what ways can we remember God's works to strengthen our faith today?

Setting the Scene in Psalm 78:40

“How often they disobeyed Him in the wilderness and grieved Him in the desert!”

The psalmist points to Israel’s repeated forgetfulness. Each lapse in memory led to distrust and rebellion. The remedy then—and now—is deliberate remembrance of God’s mighty acts.

Why Forgetfulness Weakens Faith

• It blinds us to God’s proven character (Psalm 78:41-42).

• It magnifies present problems above eternal promises (Numbers 13:31-33).

• It invites hard-heartedness that resists repentance (Hebrews 3:7-9).

Remembering reverses each of these effects.

Ways We Can Remember God’s Works Today

• Personal testimony journal

– Record answered prayers, provisions, and rescue moments.

Psalm 103:2: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His kind deeds.”

• Visible memorials

– Create tangible reminders (photos, stones, artwork).

Joshua 4:7: “These stones are a memorial to the Israelites forever.”

• Regular corporate celebrations

– Communion and baptism proclaim the gospel afresh (1 Corinthians 11:24-26).

– Weekly worship retells God’s story and shapes perspective (Psalm 95:1-7).

• Scripture memorization and meditation

– Hiding His word in the heart arms us against doubt (Psalm 119:11).

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 urges Scripture-saturated daily rhythms.

• Storytelling to the next generation

Psalm 78:4: “We will not hide them from their children; we will declare to the next generation the praises of the LORD.”

– Sharing testimonies cements truth for speaker and listener alike.

• Gratitude habits

– Daily thankfulness lists spotlight God’s ongoing kindness (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

– Gratitude turns memories into worship, strengthening trust for tomorrow.

• Reviewing history—biblical and personal

– Re-read Exodus, the Gospels, and Acts to see patterns of deliverance.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us the same Jesus still works today.

• Singing truth

Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell among you… singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.”

– Melodies lodge doctrine deep within the heart, ready in moments of trial.

• Setting spiritual milestones

– Like Samuel’s Ebenezer stone (1 Samuel 7:12), mark anniversaries of God’s intervention.

– Celebrate them annually to refresh faith.

• Observing creation

Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God.”

– Regular time outdoors turns every sunrise into a reminder of His faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23).

The Promise of Strengthened Faith

As we recall His works, faith is fueled:

Romans 10:17—“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

Revelation 12:11—“They overcame… by the word of their testimony.”

Intentional remembrance transforms Psalm 78’s warning into a well of confidence, enabling us to trust the God who has never failed and never will.

How does Psalm 78:40 connect to Hebrews 3:15's warning against hardening hearts?
