How can we seek God's help to overcome sin?
In what ways can we seek God's help to overcome sin's "webs"?

Seeing the Picture: Sin as a Web

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Cry Out for Rescue

• Acknowledge helplessness: “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

• Pray specifically: name the entangling sin and ask the Father to cut its strands (Psalm 34:17; Psalm 124:7).

Immerse in God’s Word

• Daily intake breaks deceptive threads (Psalm 119:9–11).

• Replace lies with truth—memorize verses targeted to the struggle (Matthew 4:4).

Walk by the Spirit, Not the Flesh

• “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

• Moment-by-moment yieldedness keeps sticky temptations from gaining hold.

Put On the Armor

Ephesians 6:10-18 outlines God’s protective gear.

• Especially wield the “sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (v. 17) against each strand of temptation.

Stay Accountable

• “Confess your sins to one another” (James 5:16).

• Trusted believers help spot unseen threads and encourage consistent freedom (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

Practice Swift Confession & Repentance

1 John 1:9: immediate cleansing severs new strands before they harden.

• Genuine repentance turns from the web and toward the Savior’s path.

Stand on Christ’s Finished Work

Romans 6:11: “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

• Victory rests on His completed cross-work, not self-effort (Colossians 2:13-15).

Persevere in Hope

• “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man… He will also provide an escape.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

• Keep running; the Spirit’s power and the promises of God guarantee the snare can be broken.

How does Isaiah 59:5 connect to Romans 6:23 about sin's consequences?
