How can we serve differently this week?
In what ways can we "serve in the new way" this week?

Released for Spirit-Led Service

“But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.” (Romans 7:6)

Old Way vs. New Way—What Changed?

• Old way: external rules, self-effort, constant guilt (Galatians 3:10).

• New way: indwelling Spirit, living relationship, joyful obedience (2 Corinthians 3:6).

• Our part: choose to walk by the Spirit, not the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

Practical Ways to “Serve in the New Way” This Week

Start the Day in Step with the Spirit

• Set aside unhurried time in the Word; let truth renew the mind (Romans 12:2).

• Ask the Spirit to lead every conversation and decision (Psalm 143:10).

• Memorize one verse that reminds you of your freedom (e.g., John 8:36).

Love People Intentionally

• At home: speak life-giving words, quick to forgive (Ephesians 4:32).

• At work or school: serve coworkers rather than compete (Mark 10:45).

• In traffic or checkout lines: practice patience—fruit of the Spirit on display (Galatians 5:22-23).

Carry One Another’s Burdens

• Text or call a believer who is struggling; listen first, then share Scripture (Galatians 6:2).

• Offer practical help—meals, childcare, a ride—to someone overwhelmed (James 2:15-17).

• Give generously to a gospel-focused ministry or family in need (2 Corinthians 9:7-8).

Speak the Gospel Naturally

• Share how Christ set you free from sin’s penalty and power (Romans 6:22).

• Keep a tract or New Testament handy; be ready when the Spirit opens a door (1 Peter 3:15).

• Invite a neighbor to church or a Bible study, trusting God for the outcome (Isaiah 55:11).

Walk in Ongoing Repentance and Joy

• Confess sin immediately; thank God for cleansing (1 John 1:9).

• Replace old thought patterns with promises of Scripture (Colossians 3:16).

• Celebrate small victories—each one evidence of the Spirit’s work (Philippians 1:6).

Guarding the Heart While Serving

• Stay alert: the flesh still wars against the Spirit (Galatians 5:17).

• Avoid legalism: service flows from love, not duty (1 John 5:3).

• Rest: even Jesus withdrew to pray and recharge (Mark 1:35).

Encouragement from Other Passages

Romans 8:2—“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free…”

Ephesians 2:10—created for good works prepared in advance.

Colossians 3:17—do everything in Jesus’ name, giving thanks.

This week, let every task—big or small—become an act of Spirit-empowered worship, proving the freedom and life Christ purchased for us.

How can we avoid the 'old way of the written code' today?
