How can we show courage like Rahab?
In what ways can we demonstrate courage like Rahab in our daily lives?

Rahab’s Turning Point

“Before the men lay down, Rahab came up to them on the roof.” (Joshua 2:8)

Rahab acted while the spies were still in danger. No angelic vision, no guarantee of rescue—just the report she had heard about the Lord (2:9-11). Scripture records the event exactly as it happened, revealing a faith that moved immediately, decisively, and at personal cost.

What Courage Looked Like in Jericho

• Risked her life under Jericho’s death-penalty law for treason

• Sheltered God’s people despite cultural hostility

• Spoke truth to power in full view of danger (2:9-11)

• Asked for salvation not only for herself but for her whole family (2:12-13)

• Waited in faith behind a simple scarlet cord (2:21)

Where Rahab Found Her Strength

• Knowledge of the Lord’s mighty acts (Joshua 2:10; Romans 10:17)

• Conviction that Israel’s God is “God in heaven above and on earth beneath” (Joshua 2:11)

• Confidence that mercy is available to repentant outsiders (Isaiah 56:6-7; Hebrews 11:31)

Daily Pathways to Rahab-Like Courage

• Speak truth even when it threatens comfort—Ephesians 4:25

• Identify openly with Christ and His people—Romans 1:16

• Protect the vulnerable though culture says look away—Proverbs 24:11

• Offer sacrificial hospitality—Hebrews 13:2

• Refuse to follow ungodly directives—Acts 5:29

• Trade self-preservation for obedient risk—Mark 8:35

• Stand firm against peer pressure—Daniel 3:16-18

• Trust unseen promises more than visible threats—2 Corinthians 5:7

• Live out a new identity instead of former labels—2 Corinthians 5:17

Scriptural Fuel for Ongoing Boldness

Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous… the LORD your God is with you.”

Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”

Acts 4:13 “They saw the boldness of Peter and John.”

1 Corinthians 16:13 “Stand firm in the faith; be courageous.”

Keeping Courage Alive

• Remember past deliverances just as Rahab remembered the Red Sea (Joshua 2:10)

• Anchor heart and mind in the unchanging character of God—Malachi 3:6

• Choose obedience in small matters so larger risks feel normal—Luke 16:10

• Surround yourself with believers who fan faith into flame—2 Timothy 1:6-7

A Legacy That Echoes

Rahab’s courageous faith placed her in the lineage of Messiah (Matthew 1:5) and in the “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1). The same Lord who honored her bold stand supplies everything needed for similar courage today.
