How can we trust God like Abraham today?
In what ways can we trust God to guide us today, like Abraham?

Remembering Joshua 24:3

“ ‘But I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him throughout the land of Canaan. I multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac.’ ” (Joshua 24:3)

God’s Character: The Same Yesterday and Today

• The God who took Abraham by the hand is still directing His people (Hebrews 13:8).

• His promises stand firm; His faithfulness never wavers (Psalm 33:11; Numbers 23:19).

Ways We Can Trust God’s Guidance Today

• Through His Written Word

– “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

– Every line of Scripture is “God-breathed” and equips us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Through the Inner Witness of the Holy Spirit

– “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)

– The Spirit confirms God’s truth in our hearts (John 16:13).

• Through Providential Circumstances

– “A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

– Closed doors, open doors, and unexpected detours are often divine signposts (Acts 16:6-10).

• Through Godly Counsel

– “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)

– Mature believers help us discern the Lord’s leading (Ephesians 4:11-16).

• Through Confirming Peace

– “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” (Colossians 3:15)

– God is not the author of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33).

• Through Faith-Filled Obedience

– “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out… not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)

– Obedience positions us to see the next step (John 14:21).

Practical Steps to Walk Like Abraham

1. Start each day in the Word; let Scripture set your compass.

2. Pray for sensitivity to the Spirit’s promptings—then act promptly.

3. Keep a journal of providences: closed doors, open doors, unexpected provisions.

4. Seek input from seasoned believers before major decisions.

5. Test every leading by the peace of Christ and the plain teaching of Scripture.

6. Move forward even when the full map is not yet unfolded—God rarely shows more than the next step.

Encouraging Promises to Hold Onto

Isaiah 58:11: “The LORD will guide you always.”

Psalm 32:8: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.”

Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… He will make your paths straight.”

John 10:27: “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”

The same God who led Abraham out of Ur and into Canaan still leads His people today. As we embrace His Word, heed His Spirit, and step out in obedient faith, we can be certain He will direct our paths and fulfill every promise.
