How can we trust God's future deliverance?
In what ways can we trust God's future deliverance as seen in Jeremiah 23:7?

Setting the Scene

Jeremiah is addressing a nation wounded by corrupt leadership and looming exile. Yet in the middle of warning, God slips in an astounding promise:

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’” (Jeremiah 23:7)

What the Promise Means

• A new act of rescue is coming that will eclipse even the Exodus.

• The very phrase Israel once used to celebrate God’s might will be upgraded because His next intervention will be greater still.

• This points to the return from Babylonian exile (Jeremiah 29:10–14) and ultimately to the Messiah’s deliverance that frees from sin and final judgment.

Reasons We Can Trust God’s Future Deliverance

• Proven Track Record

– God already performed the impossible at the Red Sea.

Exodus 14:13-14: “Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

– Past victories guarantee future faithfulness.

• Unchanging Character

Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

– Because His nature never shifts, His promises never expire.

• Explicit Promises

Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you… plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

2 Corinthians 1:20: “For all the promises of God are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

– Every pledge finds its fulfillment because He stakes His own name on it.

• Sovereign Control of History

Isaiah 43:18-19: “Do not call to mind the former things… I am about to do a new thing.”

– Nations rise and fall, but God directs events so His saving purposes unfold right on schedule.

• Greater-than-Exodus Scope

– Jeremiah’s audience expected freedom from Babylon; God had in view a rescue extending to every tribe through the coming King (Jeremiah 23:5-6).

Romans 8:31-32: “He who did not spare His own Son… how will He not also… freely give us all things?”

– If the cross has already happened, the upcoming consummation is certain.

• Daily Mercy While We Wait

Lamentations 3:22-23: “His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!”

– Present grace is the down payment on future glory.

Living in Light of the Promise

• Rehearse His past faithfulness; let yesterday’s miracles steady today’s heart.

• Anchor hope to Scripture, not to shifting circumstances.

• Celebrate small deliverances as previews of the final one.

• Walk in obedience, knowing captivity never has the last word for God’s people.

• Encourage others by retelling both the Exodus and the cross—irrefutable evidence that “the days are coming.”
