How can we welcome Jesus today?
In what ways can we prepare our hearts to welcome Jesus today?

Hosanna—Recognizing Our Need for Saving

Mark 11:9 records the crowd crying, “Hosanna!”—literally “Save, please.”

• Welcoming Jesus starts with the same confession: “I need Your salvation, not self-reform.”

Psalm 118:25-26 (quoted in the scene) shows that genuine praise flows from humble dependence.

Clearing the Way—Repentance that Removes Obstacles

Isaiah 40:3-4 calls us to “prepare the way of the LORD” by leveling every proud hill and filling every low valley of unbelief.

• Repentance is not a one-time doorway; it is the hallway in which we live (1 John 1:9).

• Ask the Spirit to spotlight anything that blocks Christ’s procession—bitterness, secret sin, misplaced loves—and turn from it immediately.

Laying Down Our Cloaks—Yielding Ownership

• The crowd spread garments on the road (Mark 11:8). A cloak was a valued possession, even a legal guarantee for the poor (Exodus 22:26-27).

• Surrender tangible and intangible “cloaks”: agendas, resources, reputation, rights (Romans 12:1).

• Doing this declares, “Jesus, You ride over everything I am and have.”

Waving Palm Branches—Overflowing Worship

• Palms symbolized victory and rejoicing (Leviticus 23:40; Revelation 7:9).

• Authentic worship is public and private, verbal and practical—songs on Sunday, gratitude on Monday, integrity on Tuesday.

Psalm 100:2 calls us to “serve the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.”

Walking Behind the King—Obedient Discipleship

• Some went ahead, others followed (Mark 11:9); both groups stayed in step with Jesus.

• Obedience is how we keep pace:

– Daily Scripture intake (Joshua 1:8)

– Prompt response to conviction (James 1:22)

– Loving one another in tangible ways (John 13:34-35)

Luke 6:46 warns against calling Him “Lord” while withholding obedience.

Staying Watchful—Expectant Hope

Revelation 3:20 pictures Jesus standing at the door, knocking for fellowship.

Titus 2:13 urges us to live “while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

• Keep short accounts, cultivate readiness, refuse spiritual drowsiness (Mark 13:35-37).

Everyday Practices that Open the Heart

• Set aside unhurried time in the Word; read the Gospels to “see” the King daily.

• Pray “Maranatha—Come, Lord Jesus” as a rhythm throughout the day.

• Fast periodically to remind the soul that Jesus, not food, sustains.

• Serve unseen needs; washing feet prepares the heart faster than any seminar.

• Meet with believers who sharpen faith; isolated cloaks stay unlaid.
