How do believers find comfort in God?
How can believers find comfort in God's promise to "dwell securely"?

Anchoring the Heart in the Text

“ In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which He will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.” (Jeremiah 23:6)

What “dwell securely” means

• A literal promise of physical safety for God’s covenant people Israel in the Messianic age

• A present-tense spiritual reality for every believer, grounded in Christ’s finished work

• A foretaste of the eternal security we will enjoy in the new heavens and new earth

Where comfort springs from

• God’s unchanging character—He is “the LORD Our Righteousness,” so His word cannot fail (Numbers 23:19)

• Christ’s completed salvation—our security rests on His righteousness, not our performance (2 Corinthians 5:21)

• The indwelling Spirit—guaranteeing that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:16, 38-39)

Living out the promise

1. Trust the literal reliability of Scripture: take God at His word each day.

2. Shift focus from circumstances to Christ’s sufficiency (Colossians 3:1-3).

3. Replace fear with thanksgiving—recite verses like Psalm 4:8 or Proverbs 1:33 aloud when anxiety rises.

4. Stay close to the Shepherd through prayer and the Word; He says, “they will never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:27-29).

5. Encourage fellow believers—remind one another that “God has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’ … Therefore we may boldly say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid’ ” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Echoes across Scripture

Ezekiel 34:28—“They will dwell securely, with no one to frighten them.”

Zechariah 14:11—Jerusalem “will dwell securely.”

Psalm 91:1—“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Revelation 21:3-4—God will dwell with His people, and “death shall be no more.”

Steadying the soul

Because the righteous King has come and will come again, every promise of secure dwelling is guaranteed. Rest your heart in that certainty today, and let His unshakable word quiet every fear.
