In what ways does Jesus' unchanging priesthood offer assurance in our faith journey? Permanent Priesthood, Permanent Hope “ But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood.” (Hebrews 7:24) •“Permanent” carries the sense of never‐ending, untransferable, irreversible. •Built on Jesus’ literal, bodily resurrection—because He lives forever, His role never expires. •The finality of His office means the security of our salvation is not subject to change or succession. Eternal Intercession: Our Ongoing Assurance •Hebrews 7:25 adds, “Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.” •Every moment you breathe, the risen Jesus is actively representing you before the Father. •Romans 8:34 underscores this: “Christ Jesus…is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.” •Our failures never surprise heaven; they meet a Priest already pleading on our behalf. Unchanging Character: Stability in a Shifting World •Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” •Psalm 110:4 affirms, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” •Malachi 3:6 shows the divine attribute behind this: “I, the LORD, do not change.” •Because His nature is fixed, His promises do not fluctuate with cultural moods or personal feelings. Open Access: Confident Communion with God •Hebrews 4:16 encourages, “Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with confidence.” •The priesthood of Jesus eliminates the need for earthly mediators; the veil is torn for good (Hebrews 10:19–20). •You never need an appointment or special occasion—grace is continually available. Finished Work: Sin’s Debt Settled Forever •Hebrews 10:12: “But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.” •Sitting down signals completion; nothing remains to be added to His atoning death. •Assurance flows from a transaction that can’t be reversed or reopened. Covenant Guaranteed: Promises That Will Not Break •Hebrews 8:6 declares Jesus “mediates a better covenant, which is established on better promises.” •Jeremiah 31:33–34 (fulfilled in Christ) promises God will remember sins no more. •Because the covenant rests on His unchanging priesthood, its benefits—new heart, forgiven sin, intimate knowledge of God—are unshakable. Living Application: Walking in Daily Confidence •When guilt whispers, remember the eternal Advocate (1 John 2:1–2). •When circumstances wobble, rest in His unchanging character. •When prayer feels hard, step boldly into the throne room—He’s already there. •When the future looks uncertain, anchor hope in the One whose priesthood—and therefore your salvation—cannot be annulled. |
