How can we implement "hear My words" in our modern Christian lives? Luke 6:47: “I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them.” Scripture teaches that genuinely hearing Christ involves attentive listening that leads to obedient living. Below are practical ways to make “hear My words” a daily reality. 1. Set apart regular, unhurried time to read the Bible. Romans 10:17 declares, “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” A consistent reading plan allows the voice of the Lord to shape every area of life. 2. Read with a posture of submission. Isaiah 66:2 reminds us, “These are the ones I will look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, who tremble at My word.” Before opening Scripture, consciously yield your opinions and preferences to God’s authority. 3. Invite the Spirit’s illumination. John 14:26 promises the Spirit “will teach you all things.” Ask Him to highlight truth, expose sin, and direct application as you read. 4. Listen actively during preaching and teaching. Acts 17:11 commends the Bereans because they “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily.” Take notes, compare what you hear with the text, and prayerfully review afterward. 5. Move from hearing to doing. James 1:22 warns, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” Create specific, measurable steps of obedience whenever Scripture convicts or instructs. 6. Memorize and meditate. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Short passages committed to memory keep God’s voice accessible throughout the day. 7. Practice immediate obedience. When Scripture speaks to an attitude or behavior, respond at once. Delayed obedience dulls spiritual hearing (Hebrews 3:15). 8. Seek accountability. Hebrews 10:24–25 urges believers to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Share what you are hearing from the Lord with trusted brothers or sisters who will encourage faithfulness. 9. Test every competing voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice… they follow Me” (John 10:27). Measure cultural messages, personal feelings, and advice from others against the unchanging standard of Scripture. 10. Persevere through distraction and opposition. Revelation 2:7 promises, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Spiritual attentiveness requires steadfast focus amid a noisy world. By approaching the Bible expectantly, yielding to the Spirit, and translating insight into action, believers today can truly “hear My words” and experience the stability and blessing Jesus describes in Luke 6:48–49. |
