How can we apply the concept of consecration in our daily lives? The Sinai call to consecrate Exodus 32:29: “Then Moses declared, ‘You have been set apart to the LORD today, for every man was against his son and his brother; so He has bestowed a blessing on you this day.’” What consecration means • A decisive setting apart for God’s exclusive use • A break with every competing loyalty or idol • Both inner allegiance (heart) and outward obedience (actions) Timeless principles drawn from the Levites’ example 1. Obedience even when costly (vv. 26–28) 2. Refusal to compromise with idolatry 3. God’s promised blessing follows surrendered loyalty New-covenant echoes • Romans 12:1–2 – present your bodies as a living sacrifice • 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 – you are not your own; glorify God in your body • 1 Peter 1:15–16 – be holy, for I am holy • 2 Corinthians 6:17 – 7:1 – come out from among them and be separate Daily ways to live a consecrated life 1. Start each morning acknowledging God’s ownership of your day (Luke 9:23). 2. Guard your mind with Scripture and worship (Philippians 4:8). 3. Choose obedience over convenience—truthful speech, integrity at work and home. 4. Steward time and money for Kingdom priorities (Matthew 6:33). 5. Separate from sin, not people—avoid influences that dull holiness (Psalm 101:3). 6. Keep relationships pure: forgive quickly, honor marriage (Ephesians 4:31–32; Hebrews 13:4). 7. Serve others sacrificially (Galatians 5:13). 8. Keep short accounts with God: confess sin immediately (1 John 1:9). Practical checkpoints • Thought life – 2 Corinthians 10:5 • Speech – Ephesians 4:29 • Body – 1 Thessalonians 4:3–4 • Possessions – Luke 14:33 • Plans – Proverbs 3:5–6 Blessings that follow consecration • Deeper fellowship with God (John 14:21) • Clearer guidance (Psalm 25:14) • Empowerment for service (2 Timothy 2:21) • Enduring joy (John 15:10–11) A lifelong pattern Consecration begins with a decisive commitment and continues through daily choices; the more we set ourselves apart to the Lord, the more His likeness and blessing fill every sphere of life. |
