How to deepen faith in God's help?
What steps can we take to strengthen our faith in God's deliverance?

Setting the Scene

“King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, ‘I dread the Jews who have gone over to the Chaldeans; they may deliver me into their hands and abuse me.’” (Jeremiah 38:19)

Zedekiah’s fear eclipsed God’s promise of protection (vv. 17–18). His hesitation reminds us that faith must be strengthened or it withers under pressure.

Name the Fear That Undermines Faith

• Fear of people (Proverbs 29:25)

• Fear of loss or hardship (Matthew 6:31–32)

• Fear of the unknown (Psalm 56:3)

Faith grows when the specific fear is dragged into the light and surrendered.

Anchor in God’s Unchanging Character

• “Do not fear, for I am with you…I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:10)

• “His compassions never fail; they are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)

Constant meditation on God’s attributes—His presence, power, and faithful love—steadies the heart.

Recall Past Deliverances

• David: “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion…will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37)

• Paul: “He has delivered us…He will deliver us again.” (2 Corinthians 1:10)

Keeping a journal of answered prayers and rescues builds a catalogue of God’s reliability.

Fill Your Mind With Scripture

• “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)

• Memorize key promises: Psalm 34:4; Psalm 50:15; Hebrews 13:6.

Regular, systematic Bible intake feeds faith like daily bread.

Choose Immediate Obedience

Zedekiah’s undoing was delayed obedience (Jeremiah 38:20). Faith is strengthened when we act on God’s word despite risk. See Joshua 1:9; James 1:22.

Surround Yourself With Faith-Building Voices

• “Let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24–25)

• Stories of courage—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:17–18); Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:29–31)—stir boldness.

Defend With the Shield of Faith in Prayer

• “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (Ephesians 6:16)

• “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you.” (Psalm 50:15)

Prayer re-affirms dependence on God’s power, turning fear into trust.

Rest in Christ’s Ultimate Deliverance

• “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness.” (Colossians 1:13)

• “He who did not spare His own Son…how will He not also…graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

Confidence in the greatest rescue—the cross—fortifies us to believe Him for every lesser deliverance.

Practical Takeaways

• Identify today’s chief fear and confess it to the Lord.

• Read and recite Isaiah 41:10 morning and night for a week.

• Write three past instances where God delivered you; thank Him aloud.

• Act promptly on any scriptural instruction you’ve been delaying.

• Share a testimony of God’s faithfulness with another believer this week.

Strengthened faith is not accidental; it grows through deliberate steps that keep God’s power and promises continually before the heart.
