How to embrace faith over fear?
How can we avoid a "we cannot attack" mindset in our faith journey?

The Verse at the Heart of the Study

“We cannot attack the people, for they are stronger than we are!” — Numbers 13:31

The Story Behind the Verse

- Twelve men scout Canaan.

- Ten return fixated on fortified cities and towering giants.

- Only Caleb (and later Joshua) cling to God’s promise.

- The ten’s fearful words spread like wildfire, paralyzing an entire nation on the brink of blessing.

What Fuels a “We Cannot Attack” Mindset?

- Focusing on circumstances rather than God’s character (Numbers 13:28).

- Comparing our strength to the enemy’s instead of to God’s (1 Samuel 17:45).

- Forgetting past deliverances (Exodus 14:13–14).

- Listening to the majority instead of the Master (Galatians 1:10).

Cultivating a Caleb Spirit Instead

1. Remember the Promise

• “The LORD will drive out all these nations before you.” — Deuteronomy 7:22–23

• Write God’s promises; rehearse them daily.

2. Replay God’s Track Record

• List personal and biblical victories (Joshua 4:6–7).

• Celebrate them aloud when fear whispers.

3. Renew Your Mind

• “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

• Replace “We cannot” thoughts with Scripture declarations.

4. Surround Yourself with Faith-Filled Voices

• “He who walks with the wise will become wise.” — Proverbs 13:20

• Seek friendships, sermons, and music that stir courage.

5. Step Out in Obedience

• Israel stalled; Caleb was ready to move at once (Numbers 13:30).

• Obedience breaks fear’s grip; small steps build holy momentum.

6. Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

• “Let us run with endurance…keeping our eyes on Jesus.” — Hebrews 12:1–2

• Giants fade when the Savior fills the horizon.

7. Speak Life

• “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21

• Verbally affirm God’s ability rather than magnifying opposition.

Key Scriptures to Stand On

- Deuteronomy 31:8 — “It is the LORD who goes before you…do not be afraid.”

- Psalm 27:1 — “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”

- Romans 8:31 — “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Living It Out This Week

• Each morning, read Numbers 13:30–14:9 aloud.

• Identify one “giant” you’re facing. Counter it with a specific promise.

• Share a testimony of God’s past faithfulness with someone today.

• Take one concrete step of obedience you’ve been delaying.

Trading the words “We cannot attack” for “Surely we can” (Numbers 13:30) turns wandering into conquering and keeps our faith journey vibrant, victorious, and God-exalting.

Why did the spies doubt their ability to conquer the land in Numbers 13:31?
