How to inspire new faith expressions?
How can we encourage others to "sing a new song" in their faith journey?

Opening the Text

Psalm 40:3: “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.”

Why a “New Song” Matters

• It springs from God’s direct work in a life—“He put” (God initiates).

• It testifies—“Many will see… and put their trust in the LORD.”

• It refreshes faith—new mercies (Lamentations 3:22-23) deserve fresh praise.

Seeing the Pattern Throughout Scripture

Psalm 96:1—A command to all creation.

Psalm 98:1—Motivated by the LORD’s “marvelous things.”

Isaiah 42:10—Extends the call to the ends of the earth.

Revelation 5:9; 14:3—Even heaven breaks out in new songs when redemption advances.

Practical Ways to Encourage Others to Sing Their New Song

1. Celebrate God’s Recent Works

• Share concrete examples of answered prayer or changed lives.

• Point out daily “marvelous things” that merit praise (Psalm 98:1).

2. Model Fresh Worship

• Introduce Scripture-soaked songs that rehearse the gospel.

• Sing aloud in gatherings and private settings—visible joy is contagious (Psalm 34:2).

3. Connect the “New Song” to Personal Testimony

• Invite believers to recount how Christ rescued them (Psalm 40:2-3 flow).

• Emphasize that each story, however ordinary, magnifies grace (Ephesians 2:4-7).

4. Equip With Scripture

• Memorize verses that call for new praise (Psalm 96:1; Isaiah 42:10).

• Encourage journaling of these passages with current life applications.

5. Nurture Expectancy

• Remind that God’s mercies are “new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23).

• Anticipation fuels creativity—believers will naturally craft fresh expressions.

6. Provide Safe Spaces for Creative Expression

• Invite songwriting, poetry, or testimony nights.

• Affirm effort over polish; authenticity over performance (Colossians 3:16).

7. Speak Identity Over Fear

• Assure timid hearts they are “a chosen people… to sing the praises of Him” (1 Peter 2:9).

• Confront lies that only “gifted” people can lead worship.

8. Tie Praise to Mission

• Show how new songs draw outsiders—“Many will see and fear” (Psalm 40:3).

• Link worship gatherings to evangelistic outreach (Acts 16:25-34).

Putting It Into Action This Week

• Identify one fresh blessing and craft a one-sentence thank-You to God.

• Share that sentence with another believer and invite them to do the same.

• Introduce or learn a song that proclaims the gospel in a new way.

• Encourage someone to tell their rescue story—then watch how praise erupts.
